Faith, Trust, Life and Living

"Faith is an exercise in patience and trust. If everything happened on your terms, in your way, under your “control,” on your watch, it wouldn’t be faith."  Liss Rankin

Faith does not mean religion. You don’t need, though may desire, a faith in a religion to

experience life. But religion is a man-made construct.

Faith is a complete trust or confidence in someone or something and yes, that may be in some

form of religion in whose beliefs you trust in faith.  But equally, it may just be a faith in a

knowingness that there is a higher power, something greater than each one of us. It may be a

trust in one medical way or another, in conventional medicine, or more naturopathic medicine.

It may just be a total trust that Life is greater than we imagine it to be.

So let’s not assume faith is one thing, narrowly defined! It is a process through which we hold a

firm and often unshakeable belief.

But having a faith in something does not mean we sit back passively and wait for that something to make miracles for us. Faith is not complacency. Even if you have faith YOU must take action, stepping forward into your belief in that faith. You don’t just have faith and wait for it to deliver the goodies. When you have faith, you must move, you must step into the unknown.

If your children are starving, you don’t just sit passively back and say, “God will provide.” You  are an instrument of God, or any belief system, and it works through you, so YOU must take action in a God-given way.

So if you are a Christian or a Muslim, you don’t just say “I have faith” and then leave it all up to Jesus or Allah. They will show you signs, omens, opportunities, possibilities – but  you have to play your part and respond to them!

Which means – having faith in yourself! Do you have faith in yourself? How much?

And how do you define self – are you a single being separate from all else, or an intrinsic part of the universe?

If we are religious believers, or believers in the One whose name gave rise to the religion, then when we take one step toward our God, he takes seven steps towards us. (Adapted from Hadith Qudsi.)

So when we step out in trust, and give to the world, the world multiplies back in kindred spirit. We are not separate from this beneficent Universe. If we send out doubt, doubt comes back tenfold. If we put out faith and trust, it is rewarded tenfold.

The numbers do not really matter here.

Aspiring to higher consciousness living

If we are to live a life of higher consciousness, from our Higher Self, living in the fifth dimension, we must make the first move by signing to the Universe that that is our desire. We don’t just sit and wait for a miracle. Spirit, Jesus, Allah, or whoever, won’t just come down knocking on our door delivering sweet somethings like the Avin lady. We first have to acknowledge “it” or “them”. Why would someone give us something if we don’t even acknowledge them? And more, why would they keep on giving if we are ungrateful?

And you don't just give gratitude for the biggie being granted - you give gratitude and appreciation for each little piece of success along the way.

In my early days, at one point not knowing who I was acknowledging, or talking to, I simply said, repeatedly, “I know YOU are there, show me what you would have me do, what you would have me say and with whom and when. Show me what to follow.”

We must show that we want to change paths, take the initiative, then persevere when as fledglings we may not know how to pick up the signs. The love of spirit, the higher power, will and does embrace us – but we need to tune into its frequency either through speaking in trust and faith, sitting in nature, sitting in silence, taking our thoughts into meditation or prayer ... in faith and trust. We have to take the first steps.

This is not about requiring some Higher Power to prove to you they exist! If you need evidence, you are not in faith!

Life

Rather than tie yourself in knots over which belief system or which religion or not, why not simply ask yourself about life. It’s the one thing we can all agree upon – we are here, at this moment, alive, living a life.

BUT at what level do you live life? With what mental vibration do you live life? Is it ....

Life happens to you… it is as it is, there’s nothing I can do. I feel a victim of life. Really? Is that really true?

Life happens by you - rather than being a victim to Life, you instead believe you can control it. Men try to control women and vice versa. Religions and governments try to control the masses. Countries try to control other countries. We try to control others who others who are not like us (gay, different skin colour, dissimilar religions). But the biggest travesty is, we live life trying to control ourselves, hoping to make ourselves be what we think we should be rather than just being authentic. And does any of that work?

Life happens in you – as you advance more consciously through life you now realise that any suffering in your life doesn’t come from the experiences of your life. Instead it comes from your interpretations of those experiences, the stories you fabricate about what is happening. Life happens inside of you! There could be a grey, wet, rainy day and you’re just fine. Then on another grey, wet rainy day, coz you’re already in a grumpy mood, you would describe the day as a dreadful miserable day. But it’s only cloudy and wet! But no, your stories says it is because the day is grey, the rain is wet and therefore it is horrid and miserable and life’s a bitch!  But it isn’t. How you describe the day comes from your story about the day, not the day itself. We do this a lot with people. She’s a this and he’s a that when in fact, no, it is our story about them. When we change the story, the world changes too.

Life happens for you… here you begin to realise that Life is not doing “this” to you, but to help you learn and grow. There is a benevolent nature to life – always. It isn’t just a random series of events and unconnected dots. Everything happens for a reason. Life is highly, intelligently, unfolding putting you in the exact situations you need in order to see how you keep yourself stuck and where you need to unhook from the self-hypnotic spells that keep you separate from the flow of life. Just notice your repeating patterns. Same old jobs, same old bosses, same old relationships.  Life is calling you to awaken and to inhabit the real you. Life is happening for you to wake up!

Life happens through you - this is where you recognise that Life is trustable. It is not always likable, but it knows what it is doing.  Imagine a life where you trust it implicitly. You awake each new day with a sense of adventure, your mind curious and your heart open.  You experience deep gratitude for absolutely everything. You see that all that has happened to you, even the difficult, has been for a reason, a part of your journey back into real living. Step by step Life leads you into higher consciousness, into the ability to be fully here for Life.

Life is you - the more you can be with Life, allowing it to move through you rather than reacting to it or controlling it, the more you get glimpses of the sixth level of consciousness in which you see that Life is you. You are not separate from it living in it. Instead, you live completely in the creative flow of Life, understanding that everything—every tree, mountain, person, cloud, molecule and ant—is you. You are Life! You are not in the universe but an intrinsic part of it. We are all One, each a part of the whole.

And there's more to Life than you would think!

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - William Shakespeare, Hamlet

Process

You’ll see in the above another, simpler example of an evolutionary process, of stages we go through as we learn and grow.

Life happens to you and life happens by you are about giving up, fixing, changing, resisting and trying to control Life. But neither process is at all about just showing up for Life. And at this level you will find life is fraught - with challenge and battle, with dysfunctional relationship, poor finances, and poor health.

Life is happening in you and Life happens for you – is where you realise there is more to life, and become curious. Rather than resisting or you no longer recognise the stories that your Small Self tells you and how these stories separate you from real life, you realise that the more you are show up for Life, the easy and the difficult, the joyous and the sorrowful, then unhooking from all of your spells, the more clear it becomes that Life knows what it is doing and it is for you. You can surrender, give up the fight!

Life happens through you and Life is you  - the final two phases of higher consciousness -   - are all about coming home to the real you, to what "it's" all about. The more you relax into the flow, the more you bring you to the party of life, you fully engage with Life, and allow the joy of Life to move. Yyou realise you are life.

Activities

  1. You can simply say “so what?” to the above and continue to stay asleep and live in the third dimension of how awful life can be and keep telling the stories of victimhood (and albeit occasional glimpses of “it’s” okay!)

  2. Or you can write a new story!

  3. You can heed the call – there is more to life, and go exploring, developing your curiosity. In practice this means paying

  4. attention to the nudges and hunches that say to you, “Why don’t you just go and …..”

  5. Be spontaneous. If something takes your attention, give it your intention and follow your nose as best you can.

  6. Don’t get hooked by the end point, just enjoy the journey of following and wonderment.

  7. Regularly ask, “I wonder if ….”

  8. Be open to nature, the trees, the clouds, the energy in all that is.

  9. Let Life lead. Listen to the inner voice or inner ding that says “this way feels good” or “avoid this way!”

  10. Get used to using and trusting your instincts, your intuition, your inner wisdom, your sixth sense; listen to your heart and not just your head! Listen to Spirit…. Guides, angels, dragons and unicorns

  11. Give up on collusion – ie gossiping, buying into other people’s negative conversations and ways

  12. Be authentic – speak your truth and follow your unique path.

  13. And if in doubt (your Lower Self) raise your vibration and tune in to the answers and signs you get when you ask instead, “What would love have me do or say in this situation?”

Quote

From -  William Hutchison Murray (18 March 1913 – 19 March 1996) a Scottish mountaineer and writer, one of a group of active mountain climbers, mainly from Clydeside, before and just after World War II.

"But when I said that nothing had been done I erred in one important matter. We had definitely committed ourselves and were halfway out of our ruts. We had put down our passage money--booked a sailing to Bombay. This may sound too simple, but is great in consequence. Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, the providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets:
Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!"

The "Goethe couplet" referred to here is from an extremely loose translation of Goethe’s “Faust” made by John Anster in 1835

But the message is clear, step out in faith, not recklessly but in faith and trust, knowing fully in your heart that “this is the way”  and allow the Universe or providence to step in and help. And just like Rome wasn’t built in a day, neither might your vision be, so be patient.
