The Labour party’s deputy leader Tom Watson revealed this morning on BBC Radio 4's Today programme that he had been diagnosed in 2017 with type-2 diabetes but had "reversed" the condition through diet and exercise.
He has now come off medication after losing seven stone (44.5kg) since last summer.
He did this by cutting out junk food, starchy carbohydrates and refined sugar and took up cycling and running.
He has vowed to launch a crusade against diabetes if Labour wins power at the next election.
Whether they do or don’t, Governments and Health authorities surely cannot continue to ignore the mounting evidence that their approach to diabetes symptom management and diet is not working and that putting the condition into remission is possible through radical changes in nutrition and lifestyle.
I have always been told that I have to just live with diabetes and get used to it. No!
Let's focus on the creation of health not the management of illness.
Focus on wholeness not brokenness. What you focus on grows!
Perhaps too my diabetic consultant will accept that insulin DOES promote weight gain. And that treating insulin resistance with more insulin does not help. Attending to nutrition, changing the weight set-point does.
